Hello Kimberly,

These accessibility tutorials sound like a great idea. No, I'm not aware of any already in existence for Sakai.

There is an accessibility information page in the Sakai Help System: https://www.indiana.edu/~sakaikb/display.cgi?docid=arkn

The accessibility working group would be happy to take a look at (review) any tutorials you come up with.

We've been chewing on the idea of putting tool specific accessibility information in the help system. It is believed that a summary of the tool, how it is organized, what can be done with it, any accessibility challenges that may arise with that specific tool, and how to overcome them. We just don't have the resources to write something like that up right now. Perhaps content from your tutorials could be fed into the existing help document (linked above, or eventually placed into a tool's specific help file).

We are looking forward to what you come up with!

-Brian

Hi, Brian,

I hope you are well and that the semester start has been a good one! :)

I'm writing because I'm interested in putting together some brief, general recommendations about accessibility for Sakai for our instructors and students. You were kind enough to chat with me by phone a few months ago - regarding some of the most common issues you see in your office:

* Text box editor problems when users are forced to use them instead of having alternative to use attachments

* Messages - challenging to perform multiple select with some readers

In response to some easy requests (like how to give one student who is registered with our Office of Disability Services more time to take an online test) and in anticipation of future requests like, How do I multiple select Messages? - we'd like to put together a simple tutorial for Sakai users to help them learn about the most common issues and resolutions - including information about our own Office of Disability Services! ;)

Toward that end, I wondered if you might be aware of tutorials or documents specifically aimed at Sakai use - that already exists out in the world?

If not, do you think that we could float any proposed tutorials/docs by the Sakai Accessibility Working Group to get feedback before publishing them widely? :)

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Kim
