Hi TCC,

Please see two PROPOSALS further down in the email.

I'm not sure how good my notes are, but others can chime in if necessary.

Mobile :
* We had some discussion about proprietary mobile apps vs web apps wrt sustainability. Seems obvious (to me) that web apps are more sustainable. I think that was consensus.
* Steve mentioned again the updates to Entity Broker, which everybody seems to think is a good thing
* We also discussed, again, that support for any new code needs to be considered. I heard Aaron say that a 2 year window for supporting new code one contributes is standard.
* A commercial company may end up being involved to provide some funding and may produce a commercial app based on the entity updates and/or an open source app. Up in the air at this time.
* We think it would be good to bring the discussion to the general dev list
* I have a follow up scheduled with Doug Johnson - U of Fl, in the next few days and may learn more, and will share TCC comments

Sakai 2.9.0 release :
* We are behind schedule for an October 12 release but we are going to keep this as our target date for now
* I am taking over QA lead role. Rob and I had a discussion and after reviewing all the needed doing, acknowledged he does not have the time. I am focusing the majority of my time over the next several weeks on the QA aspect. Rob agreed to help out even though not in QA lead, but so far has been limited in what he can do. Andrea Schmidt has been helping, which has been great, but she will soon be pulled by the gravitational field of local testing needs for a bit in the upcoming week or two (if I remember correctly).
* Samigo looks like the major area of concern (this also came up on CLE call). I was thinking of asking Chuck S./Adrian Fish for some help, but not sure exactly what to ask for. I'm in discussion with Lydia/Karen (primarily Karen) to figure out how the community can help. I understand that other folks have been jumping in to help, like Sam. I'm monitoring the Samigo list serve more closely now.
* Security issue review will be an important milestone and input into a realistic date for release of 2.9.0
* Test fest next Wednesday. More to come.

Areas of focus -
Agreed that main area of focus should be on 2.9 release and specifically QA. Briefly described the checklist of areas that need attention. Probably best strategy is to move on each area at least a little each week, if feasible.

PROPOSAL - Time Zone issues:
To maximize participation and minimize inconvenience we are thinking of rescheduling regular TCC meetings to most convenient time of the regular participants, which is primarily Eastern and Central times. To encourage other time zones, I'll use a Doodle poll to see what will work best for one meeting a month? Does that sound okay? Hopefully we can then find a way to include Jean Francois Leveque (sp.?) and Steve Swinsburg at least once a month this way. Hopefully will hear from other time zones as well.

PROPOSAL - Monthly participation report
Okay, on this one either the line was fading or my brain was, so I don't think I got the details. But essentially we are thinking I would produce, with assistance I would presume/hope, a monthly participation report at the institution/vendor level, not at the individual level. I think this is an idea worth trying, though it might take a bit of effort to get it off the ground. I think we would want to get some metrics, but at the same time the team acknowledges the limitations of metrics, they can be misleading. If we did something like this, I would run a prototype of the report by TCC before publishing anywhere else. What do you think?

Thanks!!!

Neal

>>> What happened is that I scheduled the 1rst and 3rd Thursdays of the month to 8 am (12 pm GMT) and the 2nd and 4th Thursday to 4pm Eastern (8 pm GMT). August had 5 Thursdays, so last week there was technically no meeting scheduled for TCC and Community coordinator, but because I was thinking weekly meetings in my head, I sent out an email saying it was 8 am Eastern last week (since we had a meeting 4 pm Eastern - 8 pm GMT, the week before that). This would explain why Steve Swinsburg would not have had the meeting on his calendar.

I'm not sure I know *everyone* who gets this email]), Jira, Confluence, Public Sakai website, QA, Community outreach, Licensing, Infrastructure, anything else? We might not hit all these issues, but this is my attempt to make sure I'm identify all the areas that need attention.
>>>>> * Change meeting times for us? Maybe have a Wednesday 10 am Eastern time as a regular fixed meeting time instead of alternating between 8 am and 4 pm on Thursdays? I would like to boost participation in these meetings. So far, I'm getting an average of 1 - 3 people and not getting any folks from outside of U.S.A. on the 8 am calls.
