[Using Sakai] [Building Sakai] alerts not sent on Topic or Forum creation

OK , tried to do  this but I  see there is no "Issue Type" option related to  Forums ...should  I log this then under SAKAI CLE?

It can't hurt to open a JIRA issue. It might turn out that it is not implemented, but at least it will be recorded there and tracked.

Hi Fatima,
I agree--it would be good to have an additional setting for a topic, to notify others that it's open, and a setting that lets you add open/close dates for a topic to the site calendar. For now, Noah's suggestion might be the best (only) approach. I suppose you could make that first posted message serve as an announcement, to let users know the topic has opened, et cetera.

My understanding is, that's by design--Forums watch notification is only for messages posted.

We've noticed in our courses that  when Forums or Topics are created no alerts are sent to  members of the site despite enabling all the requisite settings e.g. WATCH conversation etc . They only seem to receive an alert when a conversation is started. Is this the way the Forum tool works or have we set something incorrectly?
