It seems like the only point of captcha is to slightly slow the rate of
account creation and create "make work" low wage jobs.

And, of course frustrate, basically everyone else who legitimately has to
fill them out. :)

And possibly (in the case of recaptcha) help out on the problem of machine
translation.
