[Using Sakai] sakai installation problem

The installation instructions do say to download the archive in into $CATALINA_HOME and then unpack it. Once you unpack it you'll see it is a Tomcat overlay (ie with webapps etc).

So as long as you have the following directories in your Tomcat that are populated with a number of Sakai related artifacts:
/component
/shared/lib
/webapps

Then you should be able to start Tomcat and be set.

You might like to tail the Tomcat log when it's starting up so you can see any error messages that occur:

tail -f $CATALINA_HOME/logs/catalina.out

If you get errors, attach the catalina.out from your most recent startup here.

thanks,
Steve
