Job Summary:
The Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization at the University of Michigan has an exciting opportunity for a Lead/Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) working on CTools, the University's central collaboration and course management system. CTools is based on Sakai, a robust Community Source J2EE product that is in use by hundreds of institutions around the world. As the Lead or Senior BSA you will be responsible for defining requirements, managing projects, and coordinating development efforts to improve our enterprise-class system. In addition to working with local constituencies at UM, you will also interact with a globally distributed community to help evolve Sakai into a next generation environment for highly interactive and integrated online collaboration.

Note: The position may be filled as a Lead (**$71,000-$101,000) or Senior ($62,000-$89,000) depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities*
Analyzes business processes and systems and translates them into written technical requirements. Develops designs, including design documentation, for new applications or modifications to existing applications. Identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations for enhancements. Updates design documents.

Studies, develops and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of internal procedures, business processes, and systems within the scope of a functional area. Leads co-workers, teams, and business office SMEs. Researches and assists in evaluation of new technologies. Understands impact of process change on security roles.

Conducts analysis of business and user needs. Writes and documents functional requirements. Identifies and resolves dependency and integration issues across product and service areas.
Manages relationships with customers, analyzes their needs and identifies acceptable solutions.

Leads cross-functional teams, implementation or enhancements of business process improvements or upgrade phases. Collaborates with customers on the resolution of business process issues. Facilitates the creation and implementation of new or changed systems or interfaces. Serves as a resource to others on technologies. Supports production support efforts, provides content recommendations, reviews documentation, and delivers training. Develops, modifies, tests, documents and implements reports and queries.

Develops and executes test plans to support infrastructure, software upgrades and releases. Creates and maintains test data, and coordinates user involvement.
Understands batch job streams and their dependencies. Provides application support, including problem analysis and resolution, on-call support, tier 3 help desk support, and end-user support.

Manages projects to meet customer and organization objectives. Prioritizes tasks and resolves issues to ensure compliance to project deliverables. Ensures projects are completed within time and budget requirements utilizing standard project and program management tools and techniques. Writes status reports, updates logs, participates in timeline decisions, provides input on proposals and on forecasting of required time and resources, and prioritizes the tasks of others. Initiates and plans activities with performance support team to provide information and timing for training materials, communications, and other efforts.
Effectively presents technical explanations in a way that is understood by all.

Required Qualifications*
Bachelors degree in a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience.
Minimum 7 years of related experience in providing functional direction and leadership; resolving highly complex integration issues involving multiple technologies and business areas.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent analytical and independent problem solving skills.
Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Proven ability to work independently and assume a broad range of responsibility.
Demonstrated ability to learn new software, understand technical information, and communicate it to others using clear, concise, and user-friendly language.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully complete multiple tasks within established and changing deadlines.
Proven ability to lead highly-functioning and productive project teams to meet customer expectations.
Ability to contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a highly-functioning and productive team.
Demonstrated knowledge of unit and/or Central office business and administrative processes or relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated skills in client relationship management, systems analysis and design, system testing, process mapping and improvement, project management, and production support.
Demonstrated supervisory experience to include: recruiting, mentoring, career development, performance management, leadership, and/or team building.

Desired Qualifications*
Experience working with Open and Community Source development projects.
Experience working with Teaching and Learning applications and/or large scale collaboration systems.
Familiarity with the Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment.
