Hi Lynn,

Thanks for describing these two valid workarounds. Those are ways to
gather data right here right now, so let's spread the word!

In my mind though, a spreadsheet tool would be less like a quiz or a
survey, and more like a wiki. The permission scheme would then come into
play if necessary, but the default would be open, with version control.

We don't use Samigo Tests and Quizzes tool here at IU, but I believe it
allows individual users to make multiple submissions. You could
construct a survey in Samigo to allow students to input the data and
then use the export feature to output to an Excel file.  Another option
would be to use the OSP forms and reports tools for data collection and
reporting, but there's a fairly steep learning curve for that.

Hi Mustansar,

I'm not sure how different the tool would be from Google Spreadsheets
and Forms, but I can definitely see some value in your proposition. It
would be great to have that kind of capability embedded in Sakai. I'd
love it to be able to support versioning, and individual user and group
awareness (certain lines or columns would not be visible to certain
users, changeable by permission).

Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to devote to it, but I'd be
glad to be a part of a high-level design team. I'm pretty good with a
tablet PC ;-)

Dear All,
             I would like  to know if there has been any interest in
sakai user/developer community towards having a tool where instructors
may want students to 
add data. This data may be exported into spreadsheets for further
analysis. 
For instance an  instructor generates a table where students put their
data found out through surveys and or experiments. Once many users have
added data over a certain period of time then tables in question can be
exported in CSV or similar format. Perhaps that data can be fed into
some data bank  or into some Master Data Management scheme.  
If there is already a similar project under development please send me a
link. 
Looking forward to hear from sakai community for
feedback/ideas/thoughts/suggestions/critique.
