[Using Sakai] sakai demo package - no connection?

Running the sakai-demo package on a Ubuntu server, it is only listening 
on tcp6 interface (which I have none of) on port 8080.

I've removed all tcp6 references in /etc/hosts and restarted it, but it 
is still only listening on tcp6 interfaces.  I've grepped the 
conf/server.xml file for tcp6 and ipv6 but no joy...

Ideas?
