There is at least one third party plug-in for the FCK editor called WebEQ. We're hoping to pilot it this fall. Here's a write-up by one of our developers:

Yes but, as far as I know, only in rwiki. You need to enable jsMath and install a special type of Fonts. What I don't know is if jsMath is usable out of the scope of rwiki.

I have known that Moodle supports typing formula as Latex syntax.
So, how can Sakai deal with Math formula ?
