[Building Sakai] MySQL Connector/J vs MariaDB Java Client

I was wondering if anyone has looked at using MariaDB as their JDBC Connector?

Side Node: I think we can't currently bundle the Connector/J library
because the ECL isn't on Oracle's license list:
