[Building Sakai] Proposed changes to Sitebrowser results page

I beg to differ.

On our ‘site unavailable’ page we outline the steps to follow to get access to the site. This helps the student when for some reason they don’t have access to a site that they should be a member of; sometimes our group providers get the list of participants wrong.

Would it be worthwhile building in some logic around the link? Presenting a link and then giving them an unavailable message could be avoided by testing if the given user has access to the given site first. I think that would be a good improvement.

I like your suggestions for giving access to “public” sites by clicking on the title (or presenting “site unavailable” if access permission is not granted to .anon in the affected site). This may solve some problems for people who want to direct others to their sites. Thanks for your efforts to make these changes!

One question: Will you also change the “Owner" column heading to “Site Contact" to make that association clearer?

We plan to make the following changes to the Sitebrowser Tool results page. Are there any objections?



We feel that the results page isn’t optimal.

Differences



A/ On current page, clicking on the site title brings up an “Information Page” which is not what you’d expect when clicking on the title of a site. Here’s the info page, note there’s no public information for this site:

The proposal is to move this functionality to the column marked 2 above: “Information about <site>”.



B/ Clicking on the site title in the proposed new page will actually take you to the site (or display a site unavailable if you don’t have permission).



C/ The name listed under the Owner column is currently the name of the person who created the site, it should be changed to the name given in the Site Contact box on the site. The rationale is that it is not at all useful to know who created the site.



Please let me know if any of the above 3 changes are troublesome.
