[Building Sakai] Turnitin LTI launch

Hi Brett,

If you aren’t already doing so, I’d suggest configuring the LTI tool in the IMSBLTIPortlets.xml file. More details can be found in this document: https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/basiclti/trunk/basiclti-docs/resources/docs/sakai_basiclti_portlet.doc under the ‘LMS Feature - Virtual Tool’ section.

You can add your tool key/secret directly to this xml file, but I’d recommend putting it in properties instead. Preferably, in a security.properties file on your server instead of a properties file that gets checked into source control. The properties to set are listed below. The tool name is the name you’ve set for your tool in IMSBLTIPortlets.xml.

sakai.ltitoolname.key = yourkeyfromturnitin
sakai.ltitoolname.secret = yoursecretfromturnitin

I don’t have any experience with the turnitin LTI tool, but I’m guessing your Account ID is unrelated to the LTI tool and just used for logging into their system directly.

Our campus is going with Turnitin, so I am working on getting that implemented. I have looked at that link and have done LTI launches through the External Tool of Sakai before. So I would think this will be a pretty straight forward setup.

I have since had our account activated for LTI launches (at least got the email saying it was done) but I am not sure where all the information retrieved from on our Turnitin account. I am Waiting to hear from support to see if they can clear that up. But if anyone knows where to look for the pieces to make LTI work please let me know.

Here is what I have so far:

Tool URL (in the configuration how-to)
Tool Key (I created this when configuring Sakai and Turnitin

What I am not sure is of where my Account ID goes and the Tool Secret.

Thanks.

Brett

Did you see Turnitin's admin guide to setup and use the LTI tool?

Here: https://guides.turnitin.com/03_Integrations/Learning_Tools_Interoperability_(LTI)/01_LTI_Administrator_Guide/01_How_to_Setup_and_Use_Turnitin_LTI<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__guides.turnitin.com_03-5FIntegrations_Learning-5FTools-5FInteroperability-5F-28LTI-29_01-5FLTI-5FAdministrator-5FGuide_01-5FHow-5Fto-5FSetup-5Fand-5FUse-5FTurnitin-5FLTI&d=AwMFAg&c=OrYO-caJHQE1g_AJU3az1awi55It-bjDIQrtRiZ6WBk&r=2GtSValzWzuAeHPe1VTn34y7siqsP0COyo2UCa1yuDA&m=3sIs1jG3QZGjHhtZAjihHWkWs8hdJxxdysyyQVqrkYI&s=-Hem9jxg4wLMcWQGX8mXiAtQ_MSoa53tbh1R_68NHAA&e=>

The rumor I hear is that it may happen in the fall.

Greetings,
We have deployed Turnitin at our campus for testing and I deployed it following the instructions here: https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/TII/Guide+to+installing+Turnitin+Content+Review+Service+0.7<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__confluence.sakaiproject.org_display_TII_Guide-2Bto-2Binstalling-2BTurnitin-2BContent-2BReview-2BService-2B0.7&d=AwMFAg&c=OrYO-caJHQE1g_AJU3az1awi55It-bjDIQrtRiZ6WBk&r=2GtSValzWzuAeHPe1VTn34y7siqsP0COyo2UCa1yuDA&m=3sIs1jG3QZGjHhtZAjihHWkWs8hdJxxdysyyQVqrkYI&s=I06GJ6fOPddIhOhCLsIB9MkMBfD22n9toYY6rdGp_V4&e=>
I have heard rumors that Turnitin is moving towards an LTI launch (using Sakai External Tool?) and possibly discontinuing support for module installs like from the link above. Can anyone tell me if this is true and what the timeline would be? I have looked at our account on Turnitin's website but I don't see anything with LTI launch information (URL, key, secret)
I know there were sakai.properties settings added that had a URL and a secret key. Perhaps this is an LTI launch just not using the External Tool witin Sakai?
Just looking for any clarification so we can plan implementation.
Thanks for any info anyone can provide.
