[Building Sakai] Forums, Multiple Tab Restriction - Hidden Fields for replies instead?

To all,

I noted on the JIRA that some issues are popping up with multiple tabs in
Forums.

Namely, some users seem to report that this alert is popping up despite the
fact that they are using only a single tab, and have restarted their
browsers multiple times.

I haven't looked into forums too thoroughly at this point, but I was
considering the possibility of using hidden fields in reply pages to track
forum data so that replies are posted to the message regardless of what
other tabs are open, thus allowing for the tab count restriction to be
removed.

I would assume that this would make a difference because if inconsistent
state causes messages to be posted in incorrect threads, this data must be
retrieved from the session itself.

This would solve the issue of some users who are using a single tab being
told that they are using multiple tabs, and would prevent any replies from
being posted to the wrong message, which as demonstrated in the steps in
the JIRA, is possible.

Does anyone have any input regarding such a change?

Thanks,
Anish
