We didn’t have to get the reference bundle after all

And the changes to includeStandardHead did the trick!

I don’t understand why it wasn’t modified when we downloaded version 2.9.3 however.

The sakai is defined in headscripts.js, this is loaded by includeStandardHead. In 2.9.2 web portlet replaced the iframe version.

And this change came along with it. https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-23195

The only thing I might think of is that you're not using neoportal, as it doesn't look like those changes were merged into the old portal's vm.

It's pretty difficult to debug without more info.  Have you used a client-side debugger like Firebug to see if there are any JS errors?  Any errors in your catalina.out?

Can you replicate the issue on a public QA server?  If not, then it's most likely an issue with a local customization.
