[Building Sakai] Proposed Schedule for Sakai 10.1

Hello Neal,

You're absolutely right.

I thought that if I'm bringing new issues or enhancements/ideas, that would lead to a better software with more features.

As it's an open source software, everything is related to contributions in whatever form they are.

Sakai is a good software, I hope we will have the necessary time, resources and effort to develop more features.

I hope the SAK that is related to the control of the number of participants will have some resources to be done.

Yours,
Alaa

Hi Alaa,

It looks to me like additional discussion is needed on SAK-26158?

SAK-26624 is a new feature request, as you know. I really cannot say if it will get into 10.1 since I don't know to whom it is a priority and has bandwidth to work on it.

Kind of the way the community primarily works is a "do-ocracy". If institutions apply people/resources to an issue then it gets done. If there is not enough of a priority to make that work then it doesn't happen. Sometimes institutions work through their commercial affiliates to express their priorities and there are various other options on that theme, including new explorations from the Sakai institutional interest group (SIIG).

I'm not sure how familiar you are with how community source works but that is kind of it. Folks vote with their voices (like you are doing), their actions (commenting on Jiras, supplying patches, QA testing) and their resources (devoting programmers or money to fix issues).

So you are doing a good first step by making your needs known and participating. I just cannot make any guarantees since Sakai doesn't have a development staff, as I think you know. I would love to boss AZ around, but not in the cards right now, LOL.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks,
Neal

Hi Neal,

Would it be possible to include SAK-26158 and SAK-26624 in Sakai 10.1?

They are related to the following issues:
SAK-26158: for email duplicatiln check in the Account toool and while adding participants.
SAK-26624: for controlling the number of users per site type.

Thank you.

Yours,
Alaa NIZAR

Hi All,

At today's Sakai core team call, a proposal was made for the following
Sakai 10.1 release schedule:

* RC01 (first release candidate) - July 25, 2014
* GA (general availability aka production) - August 8, 2014

Does anybody have any concerns with this schedule?

Btw, we have about 50 issues that have been fixed and need testing
and/or review to be merged! [1] . Let the QA begin!

If we don't hear anything by Monday, July 14, close of business, we will
assume those are reasonable targets.

[1]  Jira filter for fixed issues needing verification to get into Sakai
10 - https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14299

Thanks,
Neal
