Would like to also add some comments to this thread, specifically on the
points mentioned at:

Why are we moving away from Sakai?

*Accessibility*

Sakai has accessibility features on par with the rest of the major LMS's,
one of the reasons that Sakai has not been as vocal about is that there is no
official section 508 certification
<http://www.section508.gov/blog/2014-05-08/common-misconception-section-508-certification>.
There was at one point on the canvas website saying they were 508 certified
which looks to be now removed. With that said Sakai does aim to support
accessibility, and we need to be more vocal about it on the Sakai website
<http://sakaiproject.org/accessibility>. But if you want to only believe
whats on the canvas website well there is not much to talk about then!

*Tool integration* (claims: Sakai’s LTI is limited, at best)

Sakai has LTI 2 support is in Sakai 10
<https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-24180>!
Canvas doesn't have LTI 2 support
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/canvas-lms-users/61hy61pHWqo>
though they have given presentations
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7_6rRdv_oQ> on it!

*Frequency of Updates* (claims: Sakai has not had significant updates in
years)

Sakai receives updates and bug fixes every day you just have to look.
2.9.0 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14979> 600 changes
2.9.1 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14980> 106 changes
2.9.2 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14981> 137 changes

2.9.3 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14982> 88 changes

10.0 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14978> 404 changes
10.1 <https://jira.sakaiproject.org/issues/?filter=14370> 141 changes
(currently, releasing soon so this will increase)

*Mobile Strategy* (claims: Sakai does not have a mobile strategy to speak
of)

Sakai has has a mobile web portal for a while though it was an off shoot of
the velocity portal that is controlled by a separate set of templates and
it was called the "pda portal". Though the pda portal used some device
detection and could be made to render an appropriate view for a device(s)
and while its implementation was typical a few years ago it is
fundamentally flawed as there is just to much engineering required for this
approach. The web has since moved to repsonsive ui's which is a better
approach and doesn't require as much engineering. Sakai 11 will have a
responisve ui in all its glory! Thanks to the work of many but you can
check out this presentation
<http://youtu.be/-b5pj0Cz16s?list=PLJ4kUcSlaiqHdR1AdjuyYC0bC09IsxVaV>.

We all need to make decisions and I feel that the blog post mentioned in
this email thread is an attempt to justify their decision for moving to
another LMS other than Sakai. Most of the information in that blog supports
that organizations intentions, and are not factual as have been refuted
above.
