[Building Sakai] Site Stats tool

Just wanted to enquire if there are any institutions NOT using the built in Stat's tool due to the systems architectures 's unique configuration settings ( of which I am clueless as to what this entails ..not a developer sorry!) but which when combined with the use of the STATS tool compromises performance of the system due to the voluminous size of the database because of excessive entries into the site stats tables daily.

We're now having to develop our own stats tool to track usage ...just perplexed why we're not able to use the built in Stats tool given the well documented configuration options and performance considerations. But maybe we're not the sole institution having to do this?
