[Building Sakai] Programmatically sign in

Hello all,
We are in the process of developing a custom front end module to our Sakai
installation. The module  is not a Sakai tool. It should capture user
credentials, forward them to Sakai and redirect to  post-login page in
Sakai if successful.

We need advice on the appropriate way of handling this process. This is
targeted for 2.9.2.
