[Building Sakai] Creating Random Groups

Hi,

We've been having some interest in being able to create random groups of students here at VT and I see a jira about this with no work done on it.  https://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-9826  I'm wondering if anyone knows any more about this and if this work has been done already but just not reported?
