[Building Sakai] Outgoing email exception at BasicEmailService (sakai 2.8.1)

Well ... I am able to send emails from another application using same SMTP server, user name and password ... I am reading those key/value from a properties file so there is no need to escape + sign in user name ... unless sakai properties are read and managed differently

Is it possible that the "+" in the smtpUser setting needs to
be escaped?
