[Building Sakai] Gradebook1 API

I need to do a simple integration to the Sakai gradebook.  As near as I 
can tell, Gradebook1 is still shipped with Sakai as of 2.8.2 (based on 
the externals file).  That being the default, where does the Gradebook1 
API source live?  It's not in any of the directories below 
https://source.sakaiproject.org/svn/gradebook/trunk/.  There is a 
Gradebook2 API in 
https://source.sakaiproject.org/contrib/gradebook2/trunk/api/, but I'm 
not sure that will help.

The gradebook/service seems to have been dropped between 2.6.x and 
2.7.x, which is probably around the time that Gradebook2 came out. That 
being the case, I don't understand why GB1 is still included in the 
2.8.x distro.

Help and pointers are welcome.
