Hi Mark,
The [user identity protected] might be for users who have anonymously accessed the site if the site is public (check the public site list on the login page). You can try setting showAnonymousAccessEvents at org.sakaiproject.sitestats.api.StatsManager (source: https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/STAT/Configuration+Options) to false and see if it goes away.
I have noticed that if you use the Become User/Superuser tool and perform some actions in a site, then those events are not captured by site stats. This is probably why the count is not increasing. You can check SST_EVENTS and other SST tables for site activity information.
Thanks,
Anand

Subject: [Building Sakai] Site Stats - unresolved issues
Hello,
I have a couple of unresolved issues regarding the site statistics
tool that I thought someone might be able to help me with.
Issue #1
I have a client reporting [user identity protected] is being
displayed in the reports section of "less active users" within the
site statistics tool. All students within this course site have
been accounted for. How can I identify where this entry
originated, and why is it currently displayed.

Issue #2
A client reported the following:
When one of our faculty, Lynn Gudmundsen, (lgudmundsen) checks her
MATH. 136 sections 03 and 04 Site Stats she has noticed that
Messages are the most utilized tool. However she has never used
Messages and is asking what this reflects. In looking at the Site
Stats for Math.136.03-11/FA the report for Messages shows 44 have
been sent with specific students either sending or receiving a total
of 4 messages. If you click on the Show More under the Activity to
the left of Messages you can drill down and click on the By User and
since site was created and then specifically choose the Messages
tool.
Research Performed: Version 2.8.x
I checked the sakai_event table for this siteID, and I am unable to
come up with any messages listed as messages.new, messages.newfolder, messages.delete, messages.reply, messages.forward, messages.read in the event column.
I attempted to send messages through multiple tools, but I am
unable to replicate a count increase. Announcement, Messages,
Test & Quizzes ect...
Can anyone tell me where the sites stats might be pulling it's
data from?
Thank you,
Mark DiGiacomo
