We have this working in a clustered environment in a round about way.

The portal calls out to an external cgi script which then picks the least used Sakai node in the cluster and does the webservice call to that node which will then setup that session on that node and return the session ID.  The script then sets the JSESSIONID cookie with that session ID which will get Apache to stick to that Sakai node.  It will also return the session ID back to the portal which then sets the JSESSIONID cookie on the users browser and then redirects the user to Sakai.

This method seems to have been working well for us.

I think this solution will fail in a clustered environment.

Does anyone solved this problem using this method for external authentication? someone recommended me a different way to authenticate users from an external system in a clustered environment?
