Hello all,

I have some good news.

The initial work of integrating CKEditor has been completed. Based on support within the community and from the Sakai 2 TCC, it has been committed to trunk (for 2.9) and the 2.8 branch for inclusion in the upcoming 2.8 alpha 2 QA release.

The most important piece for implementors: FCKeditor will remain the default editor for 2.8.

If you would like to test or use CKEditor, you can set the wysiwyg.editor property to "ckeditor", within sakai.properties for the entire system, or as a site property to select it for an individual site. The site property is now available on the nightly build servers.

There is some documentation in Confluence here: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/SAKDEV/CKEditor+Integration

The work is also being tracked by an umbrella issue in JIRA: http://jira.sakaiproject.org/browse/SAK-17880

Please note that this work is certainly not perfect. There will be bugs and desired changes discovered. Please do not hesitate to discuss these on list and record them in JIRA.

You should also check the page for outstanding issues in Confluence, as it will be the primary point of contact during the 2.8 QA cycle: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/SAKDEV/Outstanding+CKEditor+Issues

Thanks,
-Noah
