Ah ok. We have about 1800 active sites per semester (including project sites) and we've been running for 5 years now, so that's a ton of sites to search. We also have upwards of 1100+ concurrent users sometimes.

We generally have a peak of 400 concurrent users - 2000ish sites. (We're in the process of moving from another VLE so usage will grow.)
I think somebody once did suggest a separate server but so far there's been no problems.

Thanks Adam.
We have a cluster of 5 servers and run against an Oracle db.
I'm guessing we would have to have a separate server so as not to impact performance on our servers.
How large is your deployment? How many courses, etc.?

no we have a cluster of 2 nodes and search just runs on each node. We use MySQL and AFS as the filestore.

I assume you have a separate Search server as well?
What kind of DB are you running against?

We use it. I assume it works for both DB and file system content. Our material is stored on the file system.
It's pretty good and we've added the 'search all my sites' option too.
We'd dearly love it to search ALL public documents as well but don't really have the time to add this functionality.

We're looking to investigate the Search tool and I've found some info on it from Ian Boston on Confluence. Who is using it in practice?
Does it have the capability to even search documents that are stored on the file system or just database contents?
