If you're running 2 VMs on an 8G server, I'd suggest you set up each for around 3G, e.g.
-Xms1024m -Xmx2500m
and see what the process ends up using. I think -Xmx1024m is possibly a bit small.
You can experiment - basically you'll see the results in the GC times shown in the log and if there's too much GC going on, it will hurt performance and response time.

I saw that on the PROD section in JIRA but I have an 8G host which I have
currently allocated 2G for each VM.
I will tweak as I go along. I assume the AppSvr could do with more memory
than the DB Server.
