[Building Sakai] Large Media File Linking/Access Control Via Sakai?

(I¹ve realized this may involve some programming - and thus, might be best
sent to Sakai-dev )

Hi All,

This is really starting to pop-up - using Sakai to control access to, and
track who¹s seen large audio/visual media files, so - how to:

* Use a Sakai as a home base ( users log in as normal, see their sites )

* From that home base, being able to select from an appropriate list, a
training video ( sakai somehow grants the access and provides the link).

* Trainers can know who¹s watched the video and who hasn¹t.

I realize Sakai is a database design and itself is not designed to serve up
huge media files not a problem, it does what it does do quite well I¹ve
discovered however, has anybody found a way to have Sakai integrate links
in such a manner?

Off-hand, my best guess at the moment would be to rig up something like
this.

* In the Sakai site, add the ³Web Content² tool

* Use the Web-Content tool to link to a web server that actually does the
serving up of the media content.

* Somehow, have a token passed by Sakai to the WebServer/Media Server, of
who the person is, such that only those actually logged into Sakai can see
the links.

If I¹m going at this all wrong, stop me while I¹m still on only a moderate
amount of caffeine.

Thank in Advance
Charlie
