[Building Sakai] Spaces in site id throwing error with entity broker

Is there a way to avoid Entity Provider throwing the error below when accessing a RESTful path using a site id with spaces in it?
 
HTTP Status 400 - Could not parse entity path (/sms-task/love_s test site/memberships.json): input must consist of the following chars only (not counting []): [A-Za-z0-9\\(\\)\+\*\.\-_=,:;!~@%/ ( file://\)-_=,:;!~@%/ )]
 
Sakai escapes the special chars if set in a site id, but the spaces are left unchanged, hence EB 'blows up'. URL escaping such an id doesn't help.
 
Any ideas?
