[Building Sakai] Automated notification system

There is support for creating a scheduled job through the job scheduler to run at a specific date/time in the future, and there's slightly higher-level support for posting a delayed event that will be triggered at a specific future time.

Announcements is an example of a tool that uses the former strategy for notifications of future-dated announcements, and Resources uses future-dated events (content.available) for email notification of items with a release date in the future.

Hi everyone,

Is there any support anywhere in Sakai-land for time-based notifications? 
One example would be emailing a user 24hrs before an assignment deadline, 
or 30min before a calendar event.

Has anyone outlined any requirements for such a system that I could begin 
with if I begin developing one?
