[Building Sakai] Errors when importing sakai source into eclipse.

Hi, i've tried several times to import sakai source into eclipse following
the instructions on this page
http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/BOOT/Development+Environment+Setup+Walkthrough
i used the source of 2.6.0 instead of trunk and i can get sakai to deploy to
tomcat and run fine, but when i import it into eclipse and build i get 2,676
errors, and 20,593 warnings

many of the errors look like this
[     ] cannot be resolved
[     ] cannot be resolved to a type

I've created the "hello world" app using the appbuilder and successfully
deployed that to tomcat but it is listed with errors in eclipse. Any ideas
on what i'm doing wrong i'm following the instructions on the walkthrough
page almost exactly using eclipse 3.5 JEE but i've had same problem months
ago trying with older versions.
