[Building Sakai] a doubt about how sakai works

hi all, i trying to do a new tool for sakai, but i haven't understand how
sakai does some things.
i.e., when i do my login, i write my username and my password, ¿does the
button call a class? and ¿does that class call some sql code for insert the
datas in the data base? or ¿where sakai do the inserts on the data base?
