[Deploying Sakai] DBCP or Tomcat 7 Pool

I was just wondering what database connection pooling most people are using?

We're on Sakai 10 and at the moment are using the default DBCP pooling
but have recently hit a issue where all our database connection got
exhausted and the app server got stuck.

I'm thinking the issue is that a thread is requesting a second
database connection and this is how the deadlocked threads can build
up, but I've yet to verify this.
