[Deploying Sakai] What are !matrix.template.<sitetype> realms used for?

Hello again,

first thank you all for your replies to my previous questions.
I was digging into some documentation about all the default realms that
exist and could not find any documentation about the

!matrix.template.<sitetype>

realms.
Could by any chance someone explain what they are for.
And those !groups.template.<sitetype> Realms are for groups and sections
right?
