Dr. Marc Zaldivar
Dr. Teggin Summers

Virginia Tech uses Sakai and ePortfolios to address a broad range of
teaching and learning goals. In this webinar, our presenters, Dr. Marc
Zaldivar and Dr. Teggin Summers, will share some of the innovative
practices currently in use at their institution, such as using Sakai for
reflective activities, closing the assessment cycle, and more.

Dr. Marc Zaldivar
Marc Zaldivar is the Director of Active Technologies for Engaged Learning
at Virginia Tech, where he loves the challenge of blending quality pedagogy
with emerging technologies. He has a Ph.D. in Instructional Design, an M.A.
in English, and a B.A. in English, all from Virginia Tech. Recent research
interests have been on reflective practice, digital identities, narrative
structures of identity, and the use of ePortfolios for assessment,
learning, and professional development.

Dr. Teggin Summers
Teggin Summers is the Associate Director of Active Technologies for Engaged
Learning. In this role, she contributes to the development of
ePortfolio-related curriculum for learning, assessment, and professional
development, as well as faculty development and training. Her current
research interests include the use the active technologies to promote
engaged learning in the 21st century and use of ePortfolios in capstone
courses. Dr. Summers’ recent publications include “Balancing Learning and
Assessment: A Study of Virginia Tech’s Use of ePortfolios” in ePortfolio
Performance Support Systems: Constructing, Presenting, and Assessing
ePortfolios and “ePortfolios for Learning, Assessment, and Professional
Development” in Critical Design and Effective Tools for eLearning in Higher
Education. Dr. Summers holds a PhD in English from the University of
Georgia, with specialties in Rhetoric and Composition, Theory, and
Humanities Computing.
