[DG: Teaching & Learning] Basic screen casts on how to use Sakai

Sean,

Unfortunately none of my "training resources" team from Indiana University will be at Denver this year. I hope that some of the other IU folks may attend to learn more about the specs you have established. Although our Feature Demos are a little longer than the 60-90 seconds, they definitely meet many of the other criteria. (No intros to the people talking either ;-)

I'll look forward to hearing the results of the working session.

I love all the material that is out there...but...

What I think we can aspire to create is a simple collection of videos
that address the "new user" who is interested in the software and has
visited the site for the first time.

My vision would be to have maybe 6 or 7 videos that walk someone who
is completely unfamiliar with Sakai through the first steps of some
basic tools, without any implementation specific points (integration
with your CM, auth systems, etc...no mentions of local support groups,
special worksite types or roles, etc.)

The format would be something along the lines of:
"Hello, I'm [your name] from [your college/company] and I'm going to
be showing you how easy it is to create a new course worksite (or
whatever) in Sakai. We are looking at a Sakai instance at [your
college], but everything I'm going to show you will be applicable to
your Sakai instance."

Then the walkthrough would pretty much touch base on the key points of
the embedded help. Not all encompassing, but enough to demonstrate the
tool's purpose and that the tool is not difficult to use.

Although it would be really easy for me to simply link to everything
that is out there, I'd like to first estimate the effort and interest
in making these simple screencasts. We could double dip on everyone's
experience, but I think the media would be unique for the web site.
Of course, if the commitment to produce something specific for this
unique audience isn't there, I can simply embed whatever is out there.
I think the results would be significantly different.
