FYI, not sure if this is the group to organize the deeper analysis
Michael suggests or what the ultimate effect of such an effort would be.

Discussion use cases/designs are not well fleshed-out in Sakai 3.
There was preliminary design work completed but it wasn't based on a
broad canvasing of community needs.

As you know, the Sakai 2 world shows that there is a difference
opinion about what is needed (Forums, JForum, YAFT). Whether a single
(configurable) capability could support most of those varying opinions
hasn't been analyzed (I would hope it could). And issues like tagging
posts and grading posts haven't been explored deeply. There was some
talk in South Africa about contribution in that area (UNISA, for
example, has discussion sites with thousands of users in them).

So, while the current work addresses discussion partially, I think an
effort to look at discussion use cases/requirements would be most
welcome.
