Dude,

To this day I still use the project estimation algorithm we developed while at Caret, to keep myself honest and determine how long it will take things to get finished from other teams.

Algorithm For Accurate Estimates:

(Original Estimate * 2) increase units by 1 = Actual time it will take.

For the uninitiated that means if you estimate that something will take 2 hours then:

2 hours * 2 = 4 hours
then increase the units:
It will take you 4 days to do the work.

If the original estimate is 2 weeks:

2 weeks * 2 = 4 weeks
increase the units:
It will take you 4 months to complete said task.

It started out as a joke, but honestly is pretty accurate a scary amount of the time.

Have fun with your new gig! Hope all is well.

Steve :)
