Dear Colleagues,

You and your institution are invited to participate in the 2010 Sakai Multi-Institutional Survey Initiative (MISI). This initiative, began in 2008, is an effort among institutions around the world who are using or piloting Sakai to share information about instructors' and students' use of this collaborative learning environment and related information technologies.

The basic idea behind MISI is that every institution administers their own online survey to their instructors and students. Within this survey, each institution will ask the same "core" set of survey items that can be compared and contrasted between all MISI participants. These "core" survey items are collaboratively written, designed, and voted on by the MISI participants and are revised each year.

Even if you are piloting or only using Sakai within a small segment of your institution, this survey can help you discover who's using the technology, why, and what their needs are. Last year, the MISI participants ranged from institutions using Sakai for 4+ years to those using Sakai for only a few months. Also, the survey has been translated into Spanish and is being translated into French, Portuguese, and Romanian this year. Finally, the survey has also been partially adapted for use in K-12 settings.

Last year, MISI participants commented that the experience was extremely valuable for them for a wide variety of reasons including: 1) validating the use of Sakai to administration stakeholders, 2) facilitates conversations with faculty about pedagogical improvements using Sakai, 3) helps illuminate the problem points with faculty and students, and 4) allowed institution to collaborate with peer institutions.

At this time, if you are interested in learning more about MISI, please email me and/or add your contact information to this web page: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org//x/ew8AB
Here, you can see a list of the 25+ other institutions that have indicated their interest as well as some frequently asked questions about MISI.

We have scheduled the first meeting for either Monday Feb. 8th at 9:00am Eastern Time or Wednesday Feb. 10th at 1:30pm Eastern Time. Connection instructions are on the Confluence page (see above URL).

Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns.
