[Contrib: Evaluation System] Emails/notifications NPE in Evaluation System trunk

It seems like trunk is now the preferred version to run in production of the evaluation system. However, it seems like email notifications are broken in trunk? Since we upgraded, it doesn't seem like any emails are getting sent out, and there's this error:

If I'm wrong, that would be great.
