Apparently there are two Sakai 2.9 release guides. That can't be good.

The other one (the included on the 2.9 release notes page) is https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=82249316

I notice that the link to the .tgz file for the source on this page is broken, though hopefully the instructions are correct. I worked on this page.

The link you got from Google is a child page of https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=64389494 - "Installation (2.x)" .

So, I think I should delete pageId=81756286 ; review the pages again, including for demo install and binary install . But whatever things I find/changes I make needs to be reviewed by someone on CLE release team to validate.

And not sure what to do about the "Installation (2.x)" page. Is that needed?

You don't need a maven settings file, nor to help people configure tomcat with the sub standard index.html file in the ROOT webapp, or to show them how to install Tomcat as a service, or even the various flags for Maven. That's all just junk that gets in the way and makes us look like amateurs. If people want that stuff they can look up the up to date info elsewhere.
