2013 International Opencast Conference
University of San Diego
San Diego, CA USA

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Opencast Board and the University of California San Diego, we have the pleasure of announcing the 3rd International Opencast Conference. Our community event will be held in sunny San Diego, California from January 31-February 1, 2013. Please mark your calendars and join us in San Diego!

Opencast is a collaboration of individuals, higher education institutions, and companies. Together, they are working to explore, develop, define and document best practices and technologies for management of audiovisual content in academia and related fields. As an international community, it shares experiences with existing technologies and practices, and together identifies future approaches and requirements.

Also, Opencast supports community-driven projects to solve common issues in the management of academic audiovisual content as identified by the community.
The prime example is Matterhorn, originally funded by the Hewlett and Mellon foundations, an open source software project to develop video capture and management technologies that are of primary importance to the Opencast community’s mission.

With the recent success of the Opencast unconference format at Oxford University and Harvard University, the San Diego event will be shaped by contributions made by both community and non-community members in an unconference style. Topics will include:

Media Accessibility
Digital preservation
Copyright / Intellectual property
National and international collaborations
Learning Management System (LMS) integration with LTI
Operating a capture system
Matterhorn developer training
Matterhorn 2013 roadmap

We encourage all attendees interested in open source lecture capture and media management software to play an active role in shaping this conference. All topics regarding media in education will be considered.

If you are interested in presenting or contributing to a panel or lightning talk, please visit the proposal submission website at:http://unconference.mattehorn.org A small registration fees will help defray the cost of hosting the event. Please continue checking the site for additional information as the details are finalized.

If you have any questions, would like to volunteer, or require additional information please email the Opencast Event Planning team at:
