Hi Lisa,

Thank you very much for your inquiry. The Sakai Accessibility Working Group is in the process of updating the accessibility help documentation for the latest release of Sakai CLE (2.9.0). This is a collaborative process between accessibility experts at multiple institutions which currently deploy Sakai. I invite you to attend our next teleconference on Thursday December 13th, 2012 at 2pm Eastern Standard Time (UTC - 5 hours). To learn about our progress and provide your own input. We hope to have this documentation included in one of the Sakai maintenance releases (2.9.2) which is targeted for release in March 2013.

I am including a link to our Working Group's teleconference information: https://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/2ACC/Sakai+Accessibility+Working+Group+Teleconference

Sincerely,
Joe Humbert

Subject: Sakai Accessibility Resources for Instructors

Dear Joe Humbert:

I am contacting you, in your capacity as the Chair of the Sakai Accessibility Group, with regards to a project I am working on with the Council of Ontario Universities, a membership organization for the 21 universities in the province of Ontario, Canada.

We are engaged in a project with the Government of Ontario, Ministry of Community and Social Services' EnAbling Change Programme to support universities in creating accessible teaching and learning environment Ontario universities. This project is developing resources intended to assist universities in meeting the compliance requirements for under Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and more broadly, to support instructors in creating accessible and inclusive courses. Specifically, the project will address the requirements in Section 16 of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation: Training for educators.

One area, where we have been asked to provide resources, is in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS). Specifically, I am hoping to develop some guidelines or tips for faculty on how they might use a LMS most accessibly. I am interested to know what information or resources Sakai may have to support faculty and other educators in creating accessible content, in maximizing the use of accessibility features if there are any accessibility concerns they could be made aware of.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Lisa Rae
