Hi,

My name is Mª del Puerto. I'm from University or Oviedo and we are
developing Voice Interactive Classroom (A service-oriented approach to
provide cross-platform multi-channel access to internet-based). Voice
Interactive Classroom is a research project by the University of Oviedo
which explores the use of audio technologies for browsing Web-based learning
management systems.

Speech technologies open the possibility to combine vocal interfaces with
interactive learning tools to provide auditory as well as visual access to
learning environments.

Our service-oriented architecture has been designed to assemble
OKI-compliant voice modules for use upon different learning management
systems, including Sakai and Moodle. The portability achieved by using the
OKI framework is further increased by using the W3C recommendations of
VoiceXML to create voice dialogs.

Our research team uses an iterative process to design, prototype and
evaluate voice modules. The current set of prototypes follows a
telephone-based solution which can be used with several Automatic Speech
Recognition and Text To Speech technologies. This approach has successfully
enabled us to adapt visual interfaces to voice dialogues and provide aural
access to modules for consulting “Grades”, checking “Calendar/Events” and
filling out “Quizzes and surveys”.
