Hi,

The holiday may have slowed some of the momentum from the last teleconference. To keep everyone up to date with what has occurred since the last meeting, I am sending this update.

1. Meeting notes as typed up by Mary Stores have been posted to the wiki here: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/2ACC/Accessibility+WG+Teleconference+Minutes%2C+11-19-2009

2. Testing protocols mentioned by Mike and Eli have been posted to the wiki. Mike's is included as an attachment. You might have to be logged in to see it. Attachments appear under the tools menu. They can be found here: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/2ACC/Sakai+Accessibility+Testing+Protocol+Development#SakaiAccessibilityTestingProtocolDevelopment-OtherTestingWebAccessibilityProtocols

3. Eli mentioned having a look at the Sakai 3 development server to get an idea of where Sakai 3 is heading. It seems to be down at the moment, but I think the current dev server can be accessed here: http://3akai.sakaiproject.org/dev

Notice that Oszkar Nagy created a page for Sakai 3 Development Guidelines. It already includes a section on accessibility. This would be a place where we can add any guidelines this working group develops. It is located here: http://confluence.sakaiproject.org/display/3AK/Sakai+3+UX+Development+Guidelines+and+Information
A post to the User Experience email list introduces the guidelines document and describes the philosophy behind the document here: http://n2.nabble.com/DG-User-Experience-Sakai-3-UX-Development-Guidelines-and-Information-td3960410.html#a3960410

4. Eli wanted to have the accessibility statement introduced at the last meeting rewritten to match the current realities so it could be shown to Sakai management. It would be great to get the rewrite complete this week if possible, I will send a start to that in a shortly to follow email.

5. On a related front, the CIC IT Accessibility and Usability Advisory Group (http://cita.disability.uiuc.edu/collaborate/cic/) has created a sub group that is working to develop a testing protocol . The group's goal is to create a uniform protocol that could be used by IT professionals to evaluate web based resources for accessibility features. The protocols can be used to help verify compliance with individual campus accessibility policies, compare the accessibility of products being considered for purchase, to share accessibility information among CIC institutions and to provide guidance to vendors on how to design and test their products for accessibility. Jon Gunderson (jongund at uiuc.edu) is heading up the effort.

Sincerely,
  Brian
